Israel: Clearer Picture on Why Christians Are Really Leaving Bethlehem (Counter to 60 Minutes Claim)
JERUSALEM, Israel -- Arab Christians in Bethlehem have been suffering from human rights abuses and economic hardships for years. But some are trying to bring a message of hope into their lives. It could be described as a modern day exodus: Christians are leaving Palestinian Arab-controlled areas like Bethlehem in great numbers. "It's my prediction that if the remaining Christians in the West Bank and Gaza -- Gaza only has maybe a thousand, two thousand Christians," human rights lawyer Justus Weiner told CBN News. "If their needs are not addressed in 10 or 15 or at most 20 years, there won't be any Christians in the cradle of Christianity. This will be a kind of memorial, a museum." Weiner said the threat of persecution, including beatings and forced marriages between Christian women and Muslim men, are some of the reasons Christians have left. Although tourism and the economy picked up last year, uncertainty still prevails. "I know if you just look deep within their hearts, I know many people have fear and doubt in the unknown and unseen," Pastor Steve Khoury told CBN News. Pastor Khoury leads churches in Bethlehem and in Jerusalem. Part of the congregations' outreach includes Christmas banquets each year, sponsored in part by CBN. Khoury said they do many unorthodox things to bring the message that hope is only built on the solid rock of Jesus. Khoury grew up on the mission field. His father, Dr. Naim Khoury, started Holy Land Missions 30 years ago. He said his ...

Bethlehem; Jesus birthplace converted to Israeli checkpoints-The Real Deal-12-25-2011
www.presstv.com Bethlehem is the heart of Christians in Palestine and indeed the heart of Christianity. But a strip of Israeli settlement threatens to cut the city off from nearby Jerusalem. An Expert in demographics in Bethlehem, Dr. Jad Isaac predicts that the little town of Bethlehem will soon be surrounded in all directions by Israeli settlements. "We have already passed the stage where Bethlehem can be saved," Isaac concludes. "Frankly, that's why I don't celebrate Christmas anymore," he adds. In Iraq, a huge bomb blast thundered across Baghdad in the morning of 22 December. Less than half an hour later, 15 more ravaged the city. In Britain, according to the office of national statistics, inflation has hit the Christmas dinner by 7.5 percent, the after dinner coffee by 21 percent and crackers by 55 percent since last year. Bethlehem Awaits Christmas
Bethlehem Awaits Christmas
Final touches to lights and decorations, and Bethlehem is beginning to sparkle in the darkness... As happens every year, just days before Christmas, there's the traditional switching on ceremony of the "tree of peace". Ten meters high with sparkling lights, this Christmas tree has the honor of being in a special place ... next to the Basilica of the Nativity.Christmas Day in Bethlehem is the most anticipated day of the year. Now more than at any other time, Bethlehem is the center of the world, and in the heart of every Christian. Many pilgrims come to the town from all over the world, and this year has been a truly remarkable one in which many tourists will spend the night at the place of the Nativity.Father STEPHANE MILOVITCH, Guardian, Nativity Church, Bethlehem: "During the year we had so many pilgrims. Statistics from the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism say that half million pilgrims came here this year, which far exceeds the jubilee year of 2000. Until two weeks ago in the church and in the adjacent shrines there were about 30-35 Masses a day, which is many ... not to mention the liturgies in the Field of pastors or in the Milk Grotto. So you might get 70 Masses altogether. Now there are far fewer because there's always a drop before Christmas, we put it at about about 6-7 per day, but certainly pilgrims come back at Christmas and we look forward to that."The Franciscans have been the faithful custodians of this holy place since 1300. "For us, we daily celebrate the ...

Pilgrimage to a Bethlehem Christmas
Pilgrimage to a Bethlehem Christmas
A moment of prayer at the Magdalene altar, beside the empty tomb, and then we begin ... about 400 Indian Catholics have started from here, at the Holy Sepulchre, on their way to the Grotto of the Nativity - a pilgrimage on foot from Jerusalem to Bethlehem to pray and prepare for Christmas.More than 2000 Indian Catholics live in the Holy Land, mainly in the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv, Herzliya, Ramleh, Haifa. Most of them work as carers. For them and for their pastoral care, a special chaplaincy was recently founded, and entrusted to some Friars Minor from India. The Mission for Migrant Christian Indians is an integral part of the diocese of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. And that's where these Indian Catholics stop for a time before leaving for Bethlehem. In the Patriarchate's cathedral church, they receive the blessing of Bishop William Shomali: "Joy and faith," the bishop tells them, "comes from within, from our faith in Jesus our Savior." Joy and faith aren't lacking in these immigrants.(Insert, female voice): "We're going to Bethlehem to pray ... there is much peace in the soul. We made the same journey that Mary made, who was pregnant, tired ... and on a donkey.I do not know how to explain it but we are very, very happy. We are here alone to work. All our families are far away, in India, and we miss them. We will pray for them .... Bethlehem and It's Good News - Horatius Bonar
Bethlehem and It's Good News - Horatius Bonar
Bethlehem and It's Good News - Horatius Bonar May God bless you as you listen. Horatius Bonar playlist: www.youtube.com HoratiusBonar had a passionate heart for revival and was a friend and supporter of several revivalists, He was brother to the more well-known Andrew Bonar, and with him defended DL Moody's evangelistic ministry in Scotland. He authored a couple of excellent revival works, one including over a hundred biographical sketches and the other an addendum to Rev. John Gillies' Historical Collections bringing it up to date. He was a powerful soul-winner and is well qualified to pen this brief, but illuminating study of the character of true revivalists. Horatius was in fact one of eleven children, and of these an older brother, John James, and a younger, Andrew, also became ministers and were all closely involved, together with Thomas Chalmers, William C. Burns and Robert Murray M'Cheyne, in the important spiritual movements which affected many places in Scotland in the 1830s and 1840s. In the controversy known as the "Great Disruption," Horatius stood firmly with the evangelical ministers and elders who left the Church of Scotland's General Assembly in May 1843 and formed the new Free Church of Scotland. By this time he had started to write hymns, some of which appeared in a collection he published in 1845, but typically, his compositions were not named. His gifts for expressing theological truths in fluent verse form are evident in all his best-known hymns, but ...
